The arts and the humanities spur and deepen the development of creativity. By their very nature, the arts and the humanities place a premium on discovery and innovation, originality and imagination. As such, they can be powerful vehicles for stimulating creativity in young people, a valuable trait throughout their lives.

Mt. Gleason Winner Every year, the Lions Club International sponsors a contest featuring the work of children in local schools or organized, sponsored youth groups.

Students, ages 11, 12 or 13, draw, paint or sketch their interpretation of the contest's theme. "Dream of Peace" is the theme of the 2002-03 Peace Poster Contest.

Each organization selects a winning poster, which is entered into the National level contest.

Our Lady of Lourdes Winner This year, Our Lady of Lourdes and Mount Gleason Junior High School, which are situated in Tujunga, California, both participated in the contest.

The project was headed up by Marynance Schellenbach, President of the Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club.

The Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club contacted Creative Way USA and asked for assistance with the final contest winner selection from Mount Gleason Junior High.

Creative Way USA took photographs of the finalist posters and the finalists. The photos are posted online in this gallery so that everyone can enjoy the fine work that these young people have created.

Creative Way USA and the Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club will be working with the Sunland-Tujunga Library to set up an exhibition of all the posters so that everyone in the community can go and see the posters that these kids have created. We'll let you know when the exhibition becomes available for viewing.
