Creative Way USA
Introductions Meeting

On November 17th, Creative Way USA held its first "Introductions" meeeting. This first meeting was held in the home of Sharlee Plett and Greg Fey, in Tujunga, California, so the meeting was kept small in numbers.

Darin Swan (President) and Sharlee Plett (Secretary-Treasurer) presented the Creative Way USA concepts and current plans, then each guest was introduced to the group.

After the introductions, "Remember When", performed three of their tunes, followed by Christmas tunes by our two youngest guests, Keanna and McKenzie. Then we opened the mike and everyone got to sing a few tunes.

Everyone was really pleased and enthusiastic about Creative Way USA, with many of our guests offering support, new contacts and some wonderful ideas for future programs.

Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club
Peace Poster Contest

Every year, the Lions Club International sponsors a contest featuring the work of children in local schools or organized, sponsored youth groups.

Students, ages 11, 12 or 13, draw, paint or sketch their interpretation of the contest's theme. "Dream of Peace" is the theme of the 2002-03 Peace Poster Contest.

Each organization selects a winning poster, which is entered into the National level contest.

This year, Our Lady of Lourdes and Mount Gleason Junior High School, which are situated in Tujunga, California, both participated in the contest.

The project was headed up by Marynance Schellenbech, President of the Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club.

The Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club contacted Creative Way USA and asked for assistance with the final contest winner selection from Mount Gleason Junior High.

Creative Way USA will be taking photographs of all of the posters that were entered into the contest from the two schools. The photos will be posted online so that everyone can enjoy the fine work that these young people have created.

We will then be helping Marynance set up an exhibition of the posters in the Sunland-Tujunga Library so that everyone in the community can go and see the posters that these kids have created. We'll let you know when the exhibition becomes available for viewing.

For now, we have temporarily posted the photos that were taken of the winners from the two schools.

Sunland-Tujunga Halloween Event
Lions Club and Kiwanis Club

Each Halloween, the Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club and the Sunland-Tujunga Kiwanis Club work together on a Halloween Contest and party at the Sunland-Tujunga Recreation Center in Tujunga.

This year, Creative Way USA came to the event and took pictures for the two Clubs and for the community.

Awards are given to different age groups for best costumes in different categories. After the contest, kids can hang out in the Recreation center and play carnival games.

Its loads of fun for kids and adults alike. Take the tour and check out how creative these local youngsters are!
