Every year, the Lions Club International sponsors a contest featuring the
work of children in local schools or organized, sponsored youth groups.
Students, ages 11, 12 or 13, draw, paint or sketch their interpretation of
the contest's theme. "Dream of Peace" is the theme of the 2002-03 Peace
Poster Contest.
Each organization selects a winning poster, which is entered into the National level
contest.
This year, Our Lady of Lourdes and Mount Gleason Junior High School, which are situated in
Tujunga, California, both participated in the contest.
The project was headed up by Marynance Schellenbech, President of the Sunland-Tujunga Lions
Club.
The Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club contacted Creative Way USA and asked for assistance with the
final contest winner selection from Mount Gleason Junior High.
Creative Way USA will be taking photographs of all of the posters that were entered into the
contest from the two schools. The photos will be posted online so that everyone can enjoy the
fine work that these young people have created.
We will then be helping Marynance set up an exhibition of the posters in the Sunland-Tujunga
Library so that everyone in the community can go and see the posters that these
kids have created. We'll let you know when the exhibition becomes available for viewing.
For now, we have temporarily posted the photos that were taken of the winners from the two schools.
